Sense and Sensibility is one of Jane Austen’s most known and loved novels. First published in 1811, this novel was so popular in its time that it sold out the first print and a second one had to be made shortly after. It has been continuously printed ever since. Numerous television series and play adaptations have been based on this novel.

In this story, we meet the Dashwood family. Recently widowed, the mother needs to move with her three young daughters to the cottage of a distant relative. There, young Elinor and Marianne will meet Jennings, a well-meaning but gossipy young man, Colonel Brandon, an older and reserved man, and the dashing young Willoughby, who Marianne falls in love with almost immediately.

Willoughby and Marianne seem to be deeply in love, and her displays of affection forego all sense of decorum, despite her sister’s pleads to “remain sensible.” Soon, Willoughby needs to depart the town on business which sends Marianne into sorrow.

How will their story fare? Will Marianne marry Willoughby? Will Elinor be able to put some sense into her sister? Read this edition to find out!
