Just like their new home of Sunder Creek, set in the shadow of Blood Ridge, young Ronnie Carpenter and her shy ward Essa Hale harbor strange secrets. In fact, their arrival seems to bring the town’s dark and unspoken terror to light, as it affects Essa in mysterious ways. Soon, inexplicable events all point to an ancient legend being all too real. What does the dreaded ilé nagí, the fiery spirit of the woods, want with the girl? Ronnie must find out before it’s too late.

This mystery set out on the eeriest edge of America's frontier around the end of the 19th century brings the classic western genre face-to-face with paranormal horror in a suspense-laden atmosphere. The Old West may have been scary for many reasons, but this one's not in the books...or hasn't been, at least, until now.

A predominantly female cast of main characters sets Blood Ridge apart from most western narratives, but with no loss of the sense of reality that is so necessary to make a good western "work". As for the paranormal horror? Sorry, it's a mystery...you'll have to find out for yourself.
